WEEK 10 16.03.2012
By the looks of things not much got done in my absence. So I had to play catch up on Monday and Tuesday. I got my work up to date though, which is good because then I could start with new work. I did budget work for most of the week. Calculating all the costs for what were going to need for this project. I felt like a quantity surveyor. I also got sick this week so I wasn’t in on Wednesday and I had to answer the 12 emails waiting for me when I got in on Thursday. I still felt a bit ill so I worked very slowly. Today was much better. I felt more like myself so I did a lot more work. It really is true what they say about your work reflecting how u feel. I just wish the construction at the office could be done already. The partners are taking the office for snacks and drinks because they’re going to be doing some kind of noisy work on the roofs. I’m not really up for that, I’m thinking I might skip the drinks and go home, it’s not like I drink so what’s the use. The receptionist gave me a pile of architectural magazines; I’m really excited about that
WEEK 9 07.03.2012
I started with local authority drawings this week, its coming along well. And I’m back into the swing of producing a fair amount of work a day. We have a very high standard of work in the office so I’m always printing out a3 copies of my work for inspection before I print on a1 or a0. It feels like I’m going for a crit, at first I could tell that I had a lot to improve on but as time went buy I got less red markings on my drawings which makes me think I’m improving, but we will hav3e to wait for my review to be sure about that. My review is at the end of next month. I’m nervous but also confident at the same time. Because I always do my work I don’t think it will go badly. This week is nice and short because I’ll be at tech tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the short break from work. It’s like a mini holiday lol.
WEEK 8 2.03.2012
Talk about a SHIT week. Aaaaaahhhhh. Just want to pull my hair out right now.
The week started off really well. Had I meeting on Tuesday to meet with the rate payers association in Hout bay for the job were doing there, I had no idea where the place was, thank god I’m good with direction so I didn’t get lost. I made it there with seconds to spare. For the rest of the week I did a lot of specifications for the two libraries I’m working on. Today I had another meeting in Hout bay. I went to the office first to pick up the paperwork but I needed to get petrol first so I went to the engine around the corner from my office. When I got there I pulled my bag onto my lap to bet my purse, only to find that it wasn’t in my bag!!! So the wallet with my money and drivers license was M.I.A. So I phoned the client to explain why I couldn’t make our meeting, he was very understanding but I felt really bad. And felt even worse when I told my boss, he wasn’t upset either which made it worse, felt so unreliable. Just so glad today is over. I just want to go home
WEEK 7 24.02.2012
Admin admin admin!!! So much admin got done this week, feeling very organized right now, all the work I’ve done has been filled in order. So now I just need to get a handle on my tech work and I’m all sorted.
Nothing fun happened this week. It is payday today so I’m very happy. Will have some money to my name for a change. My boss (Shaun) is going on leave as of today so we had a meeting to discuss everything I need to get done next week. So we are adding a residential project to my job list. This job is in Hout bay and will involve a lot of trips there, looking forward to that. Being out of the office for a change.
WEEK 6 17.02.2012
I’m finally getting settled in at the office, it feels good to be able to function without constantly asking someone for help.
I really like being in an office with so many people. It makes for a more entertaining work environment. Not to mention how much I’m can learning from my colleagues.
This week was pretty busy. I went to site twice this week; both times I went to measure up. I didn’t really enjoy it, it was a good learning experience but not something I enjoyed doing, and would probably not enjoy it next time. Apart from measuring up the drive was kind of awkward, it was very hot and Atlantis isn’t exactly around the corner and because my boss and I went together and his very quite person. So now we have me (someone who finds it hard to shut up for any length of time) sitting in a car with someone who doesn’t mind silence. Very awkward. When we finally finished measuring up we were going to go get something to eat at the shopping complex in the area, when we got there people where fighting, WITH KNIVES, HELL NO. So we ditched that idea and came back to the office.
That was probably the most exciting thing that happened this week.
